Presentation Skills - Group
Group - Full Day Course
Course Description
This course gives people confidence to put a simple, persuasive message across with a minimum amount of preparation. It shows the power which speech can have over the printed word, providing the speaker talks naturally and has a simple, logical format.
One of the features of this program is our method of using video. Participants prepare and give several brief presentations which are recorded on video. The replays are used in a process developed from many years of experience, and university research which Roger Fry has carried out on the best use of this medium.
Who Will Benefit?
Anyone who has to give speeches at conferences, meetings, client presentations, or social occasions. Politicians, public servants, community leaders and others speaking at public meetings. Anyone who gets anxious when they have to speak to a group.
Course Outline
-
Preparation
The planning and structuring of a speech, so that it has a clear message - designed by examining the topic, the purpose of the talk, and the audience. We provide a speech format, which gives coherent, powerful content.
-
Delivery
Aspects of movement and voice need to be tailored to each individual to maintain authenticity and therefore credibility. We use our own specific video replay routine which improves style and confidence, with a minimum of pain, and a high level of enjoyment and satisfaction.
-
How to ad lib
The best presenters speak 'off-the-cuff.' Most of us have experienced a succession of speakers at conferences where those who ad-lib are judged more favourably than those who read. We teach a technique where the speaker uses ideographs - or the drawing of ideas - as a way of jogging the memory, so that a well-organised speech can be given without dependence on notes.
-
Handling questions
Some good speakers lose ground when they start answering questions. We teach a responding model, which clarifies a question if necessary, and then answers with a watertight structure, which cannot be challenged.
-
Visual aids/PowerPoint
We advise on the use of visual aids, so that they assist the speaker, rather than constantly distract the audience's attention.
Course Arrangements
The maximum group size for this program is six people.
