Presentation Skills - One Person

One Person - Half Day Course

Course Description

This program is to polish, add to repertoire, or dress rehearse. Because it is one-on-one, it is an ideal way to look at particular problems that people may have when they speak to a meeting or conference. This course can give new levels of confidence to put a simple, powerful message across with minimum preparation. It is also popular with senior people who don't have time to spare for a full day's training.

Who Will Benefit?

Senior executives who have an important speech coming up - perhaps an annual general meeting, a conference, or a presentation to a potential client; spokespeople who need to address public meetings; politicians, public servants, community leaders. Working one-on-one means we can tailor to specific needs. We can conduct the course at your premises. (We need a lectern, a TV set and a whiteboard.)

Course Outline

  • Preparation

The planning and structuring of a speech, so that it has a clear message designed by examining the topic, the purpose of the talk, and the audience. We provide a standard format, which gives a coherent, powerful talk.

  • Delivery

Aspects of movement and voice need to be tailored to each individual to maintain authenticity and therefore credibility. We have developed a video replay procedure to smooth out delivery.

  • How to ad lib

Most of us have experienced a succession of speakers at conferences where those who ad-lib are judged more favourably than those who read. We can demonstrate and practice a technique for using ideographs - or the drawing of ideas - as a way of jogging the memory of what to say next.

  • How to read a speech

Despite everything, some speakers have to read a text verbatim. This is particularly difficult, because many texts are written for the eyes rather than a script for the ears of the audience. To help speech reading to be as fluent and easy as possible, we have developed video rehearsal techniques. (We offer a course for your speech writers as well!)

  • Handling questions

Some good speakers can lose ground when they start answering questions. We teach a responding model, which clarifies a question if necessary, and then answers with a watertight structure, which cannot be challenged.

Course Arrangements

Our two coaches, Roger Fry and Richenda Rudman, will be happy to arrange a time to suit you. Between three and four hours is required.
