Crisis and Issues Management
One Day Program
Description
Pro-active communication needs planning. This course has a focus on how to plan communication to handle an important issue or crisis. It is based on a simple logical model which we have developed to deal with issues and the needs they create - a model our clients have applied successfully in hundreds of critical situations.
Who Will Benefit?
The course is aimed at senior management people who wish to learn a logical framework of PR or issues management. It is also very useful for crisis management team members who need to know what the company spokespeople are going to do and say to the media/public/workers.
It has been of value to clients in the mining industry, in research, in primary industry, in education, in telecommunications, retailing and commerce.
In the government and semi-government areas, it has helped organisations understand, often for the first time, that they do not throw logic out the door in managing issues and using the media in the process. Senior police officers have used this approach to manage the media and other stakeholders in major crime investigation.
Course Outline
- Presentation of our communications model 2A + 3M. This model shows how to clearly define objectives; identify who can help achieve those objectives; how to formulate messages for the necessary groups involved; and which media are relevant.
- Case study demonstration of the model.
- Participants work in syndicate groups to use the model to develop management strategies for the organisation's own current or prospective issues.
- Presentation of the strategies and discussion.
- Rehearsal of media encounters to test the effectiveness of the messages and strategy.
Much of the time is spent with participants applying the model on their case material. It is not unusual for clients to come away from the day with a new or revised master plan for the management of their sensitive issues.
Where a client wants an issues management or public relations plan prepared or put through an audit, another division of Roger Fry & Company called PRLogic is specially geared to carry out such work.
Course Arrangements
This program is best run in-house because it frequently deals with confidential material. There is no limit to group size.
