Seminars - Melbourne 2008

While most of our programs are arranged for specific clients, we do offer occasional opportunities for solo participants to take part in 'mixed group' training seminars.

Handling the Media

Media interview technique is often regarded as an essential skill for senior people in an organisation. Many thousands have spent a day with us, and left confident that they can handle the media in a pro-active manner.

The program gives participants a rational approach to assessing the value of media involvement, and to preparing and delivering interviews.  It points to the fact that most media requirements are for information and one or two direct quotes - rather than the familiar question-and-answer interview.  We teach skills for both areas - with lectures, demonstrations and enjoyable practical exercises.

Highlights include our own specifc skills for quickly preparing positive messages, and for giving watertight answers. (We believe our MBE answer format must be the best available, judging by the frequency with which it comes up in courses run by other trainers.)

The course is supported by an extensive set of notes, preparation protocols, and individual DVDs which are retained by partiicpants.

Speech Writing

Book early! This is a popular program, and we limit the group size to six people.

This highly practical one-day course is given by our senior consultant and professional speechwriter, Richenda Rudman. Richenda helps participants to use their own topics in learning a step-by-step approach to  writing a purposeful and enjoyable speech for any speaker and any occasion.

The course is supported by a detailed speechwriting manual, with preparation protocols, and handouts. Participants are also invited to seek advice and assistance with speeches after the training program - a complimentary service for the first six months.

Many participants get back in touch after they have applied the techniques for the first time. They typically report great savings in time and effort, and results which won praise from the speaker and audience.

Effective Business Writing

This course teaches the art of writing, with a focus on getting ideas accepted. The course does this by covering both conceptional matters and actual writing skills. The program has three main themes:

Planning, so that the document meets its specific purpose;
Structuring, for coherence and clarity of the material;
Style, to give a readable, unambiguous and persuasive flow of words.

Dates: To be arranged. Please contact us.

Communication Skills

This course shows how to improve your communication skills in one day. It is loaded with practical tips for being clear and persuasive.

We look at the ways in which we can communicate more effectively - getting and keeping rapport and control, and how to say things in a way which gets people to do what we want.

The second half of the course is spent on content - how to be absolutely clear, and to check other people's exact meaning, how to say things in a responsible way, and how to sequence our thoughts so they are more readily accepted.

Dates: To be arranged. Please contact us.

The Psychology of Communication (two day course)

A special course given by Roger Fry which distils relevant communications applications from the world of psychology.

Designed for people in HR and PR areas, the program looks at language use, the unconscious mind at work in everyday situations, belief systems and their effect on our behaviour, and non-verbal communication. The exact program is often tailored to meet the expressed preferences of those taking part.

Recent participants have described the program as "as good as a university course" and "an eye-opener to a whole new world in communication."

Dates:  To be arranged to suit applicants.
